Fasting at Gateway

Fasting has traditionally been a way for God's people to better our focus and train our hearts upon Him by denying ourselves food for a season. It is a biblical principle that Gateway Community Church will begin encouraging her people to follow on a regular basis.

Beginning today (January 11) and continuing through 5PM on Saturday, January 17, many of us at Gateway will be going through a seven-day juice fast as we prepare ourselves for what we believe God is about to do among us! We want our hearts to be ready when He begins to move.

Therefore, we invite you to do at least one of the following four things with us:

1) Join us (voluntarily) on this juice fast! (If you want to join us, you must be well-informed on, ready for, & healthy enough to follow the plan. For all who wish to do so, please read ALL 11 pages of http://www.ccci.org/training-and-growth/devotional-life/personal-guide-to-fasting/index.htm. MAKE SURE that you have no health concerns that would prohibit you from fasting. For some of you, that will mean consulting with your doctor to ensure that you are healthy enough to fast).

2) Fast in another way, by denying yourself certain foods or a meal (or meals) on specific days, or going on another type of fast (social media, technology, etc) during the week.

3) During this time of fasting, spend more time concentrating on specific passages of Scripture. Many of you already have a daily devotional guide or some other guided daily bible reading, but we invite you to spend specific times reading the following passages during this time of fasting.

  • (January 11) Day 1 – Exodus 15:1-21; 2 Samuel 22; Psalm 1

  • (January 12) Day 2 – Psalm 8-9; Psalm 18-19; Psalm 23

  • (January 13) Day 3 – Psalm 25; Psalm 32; Psalm 46; Psalm 51

  • (January 14) Day 4 – Psalm 100; Psalm 103; Psalm 111-113

  • (January 15) Day 5 – Psalm 119

  • (January 16) Day 6 – Matthew 5-7; John 13:1-17; Acts 13:13-41

  • (January 17) Day 7 – Romans 8; 2 Corinthians 5:16-6:2; Philippians 2:1-11; Revelation 5:11-14

4) Commit yourselves to intentionally and expectantly pray that God's Spirit will move among us at Gateway in the days ahead, and that our church will be responsive and obedient to Him. We hope you're already doing this, but if not, this week is a great week to start!

For more information, and encouragement during this week of fasting check out our Facebook event page, "Fasting at Gateway."

We love you all! Have a great (and powerful) week!
